Oranges

We know oranges are not the only fruit, but they are a very important one.  Probably THE most versatile fruit garnish in your cocktail toolbox.  Let's take a closer look at the humble orange.

History

  • Oranges belong to the citrus genus, which also includes other popular fruits such as lemons, limes, and grapefruits. The scientific name for oranges is Citrus sinensis, and they are believed to have originated in Southeast Asia. Oranges are known for their juicy pulp and sweet flavor, and they are a great source of vitamin C and other nutrients. The citrus genus is an important part of the global fruit industry, with oranges being one of the most widely cultivated fruits in the world. Citrus sinensis was introduced to the Mediterranean region by Arab traders in the 9th century and later to the Americas by Spanish explorers in the 15th century. Today, sweet oranges are one of the most widely cultivated fruits in the world, prized for their juicy flesh and sweet flavour.
